Creativity is Our Birthright

Quotes have always inspired me. I've collected many over the decades, scribbling them onto scraps of paper, and tucking them for safe keeping into my quote box.

I realized hoarding them does nothing to honor their wisdom, so in the weeks to come I plan to share some of my favorites.

This is from Alan Watt, author of The 90-Day Novel.

“Creativity is not an occupation; it is our birthright. It is a way for us to make meaning of our lives, to reframe our relationship to the world, to communicate the deepest aspect of ourselves.”

Do you have a favorite quote? Please share it below in a comment so I might add it to my collection! Until next time, exert your birthright. CREATE!

  1. I have to admit, while I enjoy quotes, I don't have a favorite. I do like the one you put up this time, and I'll be back for more.

    1. My problem is being unable to select just one. There's always something about each one that makes me think mmmm!

  2. Anne,
I can't say that this is my favorite but here's one to add to your list.

    1. Oh, thank you! I like it very much. "An invincible summer." There is surely one in all of us. :)

  3. Great quote! I like to use quotes, proverbs and fortune cookie advice as writing prompts for short exercises. Amazing what you can get from them!

My favourite quote is by Mark Twain: 'A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.' It reminds me sometimes my characters have to do stupid things just so they can learn a valuable lesson.

  4. Hi Charmaine. Lovely to have you drop by to chat. My fav quote is also by Mark Twain (quite the guy, eh?!). He said, "TWENTY YEARS FROM NOW you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did.”

I named my personal blog after that quote: "20 Years From Now" (http://20yrsfromnow.blogspot.com/). I want to enjoy life between now and then because those nexy 20 years is fast approaching!

  5. I, too like quotes. The first blog I had was titled "Ann's Quotes and Things" which I recently closed to the public. I use to write them in my little blue quote book, but found the blog was a much better place to save them.

Thanks for becoming my newest follower.
